Nice shots ML,1st B/f is a  painted lady ,    ( Vanessa kershawi ) last butterfly is a common jezebel male , found on the east coast and the insect is a robber fly, the goshawk of the bug world. Sits and waits in bushes and then chases down bees and catches them on the wing .

ML this is the Robber fly with a bee. Its feeds like a spider , turns the inside of the bug into a liquid and sucks it out like a milkshake.
