Bird of the Week Challenge: 13th October - Cranky!

Hi all, welcome to another week and another challenge.

Yesterday I got swooped by a magpie for the first time ever - you would have thought that my love of the bird world would be reciprocated, but no! I got chased through my local park and around the corner, watching the shadow of it coming up behind me surprise At least it got my run off to a vigourous start!

So - your challenge this week is to share shots of birds looking fiesty/angry/cranky. Share those angry birds, just allow 1 person to post between your efforts.

This Tasmanian Native Hen was not happy we had to remove it from a suburban back yard, where the owner did not appreciated the semi solid presents it kept "dropping"

Hello all

Amazing pics so far - hope you won't mind me posting cranky yellow-tail, she forced him off branch soon after.

I'm on Limestone coast of SA - lucky to have a 20 acre bush block amongst the paddocks so get plenty of treats like this.

The "original" Angry Bird Shorty, you just can't go past a Scrubwren for a cranky looking face, nice one Shorty!  No doubting who is in charge there Termite, I bet you get to see all sorts of birdy behavioural treats on 20 acres, so lucky!

I've had a few sessions with a particular group of Superb Fairy-wrens, and there is always this one little Miss who has the crankiest expressions.  A little bit cute though too.

Thanks Shorty.  Hahaha, no, no moss rocks or spray on moss carried, but I did pick this particular area specifically for all the nice moss and perches - it's now dubbed "the friendly wren spot" by our family, as they really are there.  This one I didn't even have to get down and dirty, she perched behind me at eye level while we were lunching at the picnic table, so lucky shot for many reasons I think.

Thank you, Annie, yes - the yellow-tails are listed as vulnerable here, but fortunately there's a gang of 54 hanging around. The white browed babblers are a favourite though. As you can see I'm no great photographer but I'd like to get a shot of all residents and visitors. And thank you for photo - every time I look at her I smile smiley

I like the almost casual eye contact in this shot, it reads load and clear, "You and that camera are a pain in the arse!"

Fantastically timed shot Reflex!  There is definitely serious attitude in that eye isn't there?!

Dug this one up from last year.  There was another Welcome Swallow sitting to the right of this little guy, just both peacefully perched.  Then the wind ruffled this fella's crest and he turned to the other WS and let rip with an angry squawk, as though his ruffled feathers were the other birds fault.  Bit of a be there moment, but was funny to see at the time.

Adds a whole new meaning to getting one's feathers ruffled (sigh) wink

This little fella didn't look very happy but if you think about it, the prospect of eating meusli all day every day would make you cranky!

That would be intimidating - would not want a close encounter with those talons.

He's probably concerned those branches may get further apart Shorty and force him into a full split laugh

This Crescent Honeyeater took offence to a flock of Black-headed HE's who visited HIS shrub a couple of times a day.  He was mostly all talk though and they ignored him & took turns landing in the other side of the bush, which didn't do much to help this guys temper.
