"2014 - Your best shot of the year".

It's really hard to believe that another year is just about over. As far as photography is concerned 2014 has been a huge learning curve for me and thought it would be a good opportunity to look back at what we have achieved with our birding. An opportunity to share your best shots for 2014.

It's difficult for me to pick a single shot after so many firsts but I do remember one Sunday afternoon with a Striated Pardalote.

That's just a magic shot Reflex. Beautiful pose, bokeh, detail, colour.

As soon as I get home will have to have a look although I have a couple in mind already :-)

Thanks Rob. I was pretty pleased with it at the time. Equipment used was a Canon EOS 70D & EF300mm f/4L USM +1.4x mounted on a tripod about three metres away from the entrance to the nest. I visited this nest site several times last year as this pair had at least two broods.

Very sharp. The tele converter does'nt seem to take any sharpness from the lens. Good glass is worth every dollar.

Thanks Will. 200 mm prime lens. I was fairly close to the bird which helped. I cropped it in a bit to make up for the lack of focal length. All I need now is a 400 mm prime:).

Double post somehow. Sorry guys.

Great shot Rob and you have managed to expose the eyes nicely. They must be one of Australia's most photographed birds and it isn't hard to see why.

Thought it would be a bit harder to choose but it was only ever going to be this one smiley

As I only started photography last year, there are soo many that I like.

This would have to be one of my favourite shots.

The reason its one of my favourite shots is not only was it taken at the inlaws place, but my mum was disheartened that she could never find colourful birds to take a photo of.

This photo shows that its not only the subject that can bring out a beautiful picture but the surroundings its in as well.

Totally agree, it's a great shot with good eye contact and detail on the birds feathers. The combination of the colour from the flower and that small bead of water on the tip of the birds bill just makes it all the more special.
