Baby Birds

Spring is here and birds are starting to nest and breed. New hatchlings are stepping out of their nest for the first time and they're learning to fly,(they're also begging their parents for food).

I took two photos on a walk today of a male magpie trying to look after his three babies. (The female ran off somewhere).

Please post some of you baby bird photos...try to get as many babies as you can in the photos.

Lovely scene, TBL, and great idea to get lots of baby bird photos. Thanks for the update, Max, glad to see they are doing well. And to Tim... I can't say baby little wattlebirds are the cutest things of all. I might start with the family of wood ducks in my local pond, following TBL's request to try and get as many babies as you can in the photos. This is just one family with 24 ducklings. Funnily enough, my field guide says clutch size is 8-14 (I don't know why the img is displaying so small, click on it to enlarge it).

That is one large duck family Ryu. A very happy family by the looks of it.

The grey shrike thrush pic is so sweet...nice shot,Max.

Yes Ryu, I agree that baby Little Wattlebird's are not very cute.

Such beautiful photos everyone! Baby birds are such a joy to watch. I had a pair of Pacific Bazas fly over with two/three young ones yesterday! I was super excited to see them, they were doing a lot of calling and diving, the young ones still didn't seem too confident though :P It would figure that my camera wasn't accessible at the time, I'm seriously considering putting that thing on permanently when I get up in the mornings! I just seem to miss way to much if i'm not wearing it :) So rather than some interesting shot of the Baza family, I thought i'd share one of our Scaly-breasted Lorikeet family instead :) Parents will know how this feels :P

Adorable photo Elsie! I love lorrikeets and this shot is especially cute with the little baby begging his parent for his dinner.

Love everyone's photos - I'm a newbie forum user and a newbie bird watcher

Is this a baby butcherbird (it seemed a bit too big)?

Hi and welcome to the Birds in Backyards  forum cathypernet. Hope you enjoy bird watching as much as everyone in the bird forum does.

And to answer your question, yes that does look like a young Grey Butcherbird to me. They aren't that small and are sometimes mistaken for baby Kookaburras.

I got alot of juveniles lately, they were baby's not long ago but still cute. Here is a Red Wattlebird, Restless Flycatcher, Fairy Martin and a Welcome Swallow in flight already, he just started flying not long ago.
