Bird of the Week Challenge: 14th March - new photos

Wow! Guys I have to say, your blue-themed photos last week were amazing! Well done to everyone who contributed.

This week I thought we would focus on photos you all have taken in 2016. So doesn't matter what they are of, but lets just see those photos from this new year that you are particularly happy with. Share one phot and then wait 2 turns before sharing another (make sense?)

I was in Canberra a couple of weeks ago and saw Gang Gang Cockatoos for the first time. So exciting.

I'm still to see a Gang Gang Cockatoo yet. I've quite a few favourites already in 2016 but I knew when I pressed the shutter that I was going to like this one.

This was a highlight for me and was one of the first new species I got for the year.

My 8yr old came with me and got some shots also. Great father son time and a great new species.

I was happy with this shot even though it was cropped a fair bit. This is my first Red Rumped parrot taken at the wetlands near Albury. Thanks Tegan fo the ID.

From Norfolk Island. I was taking a couple of Landscape shots as these Black-winged Petrels flew past.

This is definitely the shot I was most excited about this year (admittedly, it could be better...but I just love raptors!)

A pair of Buff Banded Rails decided to raise a family in the backyard.

Not the best photos as they are really flighty.

Took this today and pretty happy as I have only seen a Yellow Wattlebird once before.

I know I have shown this photo before but I really liked the capture and it was a lifer for me.

Great photos, everyone.

Took this Kite shot in the dying light a couple of days ago. Got a bit of a sequence of the kite coming in to land then ripping up the poor little mouse, but I like this "before" shot where the mouse's eye is visible. Might need to go full size to see it, mind you. Forever wanting to be closer!

I shot this only yesterday.

Got this lifer last night. I could hear him calling so I grabed a torch and headed out. He was pretty partient with me as I had a big spotlight and the rest of the family was in bed, so i had to try and hold it between my knees. I bet he was thinking ...  Look at this goofball.

My first night flash shot as well as a lifer.

A quiet moment for this Great Cormorant before she got unceremoniously bundled off the rock by a menacing dog at the behest of its YASJ owner.

One of my personal favourites from this year, Jacky Winter, taken in Capertee Valley NSW. I like the pose, lighting, the shallow depth of field, the different coloured wires and the purple flowers in the background.

Not a new bird for me but got this Striped Honeyeater while out at Oakey earlier this year. I liked this photo because of his stare.

Another from Norfolk Island. A Red-Tailed Tropicbird.

My favourite at home here is the Whipbird. I just love the calls that waken us every morning. Sometimes just beneath the window. We see them quite often but don't get too many good photos.
