Probably not the right place but..

Is it just me or is there a trend developing in Australia?

  • 200 workers frozen out as last Australian fridge maker Electrolux closes today.
  • Apr 28, 2015 - THE first example of the last car to be made in Australia will go down Toyota’s production line in Melbourne.
  • ARRIUM’S administrators will hold a crucial creditors’ meeting “on or before 13 May” to report back about the viability of the embattled business, but have assured workers that it will continue to trade until then.
  • Queensland Nickel's administrators FTI Consulting said yesterday they had "notified the majority of Queensland Nickel Pty Ltd employees of their termination of employment, effective as of 5pm Friday"
  • As many as 140 workers at Adelaide car component company SMR Automotive (SMRA) will lose their jobs in March ahead of Holden's withdrawal from Australian car manufacturing in 2017.

my greatest disappoinment is with Electroloux as the plant was in Orange, NSW; a significant impact on a regional centre

it is hard to group Arrium with the others as I understand that the main issue was poor management decisions

it is hard to group Qld Nickel with the others as I understand that the main issue was asset & cash stripping - reminiscent of Ansett

Agreed. It's very sad and I feel sorry for our kids. We are selling the farm off cheap. This is going to be a huge imact on Orange and this does not include contractors, shop keepers, rural real estate companies, local farmers, transport companies etc etc based in Orange that depended on the trade from the factory and its workers.  544 jobs at what is the last refrigerator manufacturing operation in Australia.

Arrium is what we knew as One Steel trying to compete with Chinese imported steel. At the same time Apr 9, 2016 ..Chinese investment in Australian real estate has doubled.

Again agreed. Clive Palmer pillaged Qld Nickel as though it was his personal piggy bank.

Samford Valley Qld.

Don't forget that Arrium borrowed hugely at the height of the iron ore price - just the time to have been proceeding cautiously some would say.

I don't think the polticians beleive we can become tennants in our own country.  But if you own little, or control little their ain't much a tennant can do.  We don't even make a bolt or nut in this counrty anymore.  The promised future full of jobs we don't even know about yet won't be that exciting if we own nothing or fail to back each other.  I pay more, it annoys me, and it's not easy to find, but if I don't try and support Australian where I can, than I have played more than I'm happy with selling off the farm.

On a recent trip to NZ, it was quite noticable how they promote and push NZ made, supplied, or owned. Something we don't seem to do a great deal of here in the lucky counrty.
