Bird of the Week Challenge: 18th April - birds and their favourite plants

Happy Monday everybody

Thanks for your gorgeous family photos last week. This week's theme focussed on a bird with a plant that it loves - whether that is for food, shelter or nesting.

Just an observation but I thought this challenge was, "This week's theme focussed on a bird with a plant that it loves - whether that is for food, shelter or nesting"?

A White-Capped Black Noddy in a Pisonia grandis tree on Heron Island. The Noddies use the leaves of this tree to make their nests during the breeding season. Between October and April over 70,000 white-capped noddies nest on the island during this period.

Thanks Reflex, apologies for reading food not plant (late night). Osprey has morphed into a Reed-warbler.

If you are anything like me when you think of palm tree fruit, you probably only think of a coconut or maybe dates. I don't know what sort of Palm tree this was but the birds were quite taken with the red berries. Maybe a Wax palm?

Better known for sloshing about in the shallows, but the Swamp Hens around here love all kinds of plants - they'll even do a bit of weeding!

Reflex it looks like an Umbrella Tree (Schefflera actinophylla). I know because we used to have one in our backyard, the White Plumed Honeyeaters used to sit on the leaves!

Thanks Tim. The Blue-Faced Honeyeaters were quite keen as well.
