Just thought I would share some photographs from the recent Tasmanian pelagic at Eaglehawk neck.

My photographs from the two days at sea are here:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/reflex59/albums/72157668891214241
A total of 41 different species seen over the two days at sea and another 14 different species seen during the course of the whole five days in Tasmania. 55 New species in total including a Grey Goshawk (white Morph). In fact I'm still sorting my photographs from the whole trip, all 8983 of them. A magnificent part of the world and a magnificent trip.
The Hippolyte Rock as seen on our way out to the shelf. Standing as a stark reminder of the wonders of nature in this part of Tasmania, the Hippolyte Rock soars over a hundred metres out of the ocean from the sea-bed a further hundred metres below. It is surrounded on most sides by dangerous, rocky reefs; some just above or below the huge waves that break constantly over them.

Wow, amazing set, Reflex. I really must get out on a Pelagic.
I really like your in-flight Buller's Albatross and Light-Mantled Sooty Albatross shots.

Great set of photos Reflex ... all such beautiful birds expertly photographed.
Each one really deserves a special comment ... but I will just mention one, and that is the northern giant petrel with the cascading bow wave.
What can I say. Great shots . . . . . I hate you. In the nicest possible way of course.
Just found a photograph (not the best quality) that I had wrongly identified as a Southern Fulmar now rectified to Slender-Billed Prion (Pachyptila belcheri).

Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well

As a local who has fished that area many times, I am soooooo jealous both with the variety and the quality of photos. Many species that I have not sighted at all, let alone photgraphed. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Dale! I loved every minute of this trip. Magnificent part of the world.

Wow, tonnes of brilliant shots here. Looks like the birds were nice and close at times. Super sharp shots of the Buller's Albatross(es). Lots of other great shots in that Flickr album, too. I'm going to keep a hopeful eye on dates for a Pelagic here in SA in the Spring!

Hi Reflex, some great shots - I love the LMS Albatross! I'm a UK birder and am heading to Tasmania in November 2016 and would really like to arrange some pelagic trips if possible. Would you perhaps post here or PM me the details of who you used/who arranged your trip etc please? Any assistance will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance :-)
For this particular trip we organised with the owner of the boat and basically hired the boat for two days.
Rohan Clarke co-ordinates pelagic trips from Eaglehawk Neck in Tasmania. The boat takes 13 so booking early is essential.
Trip Length: About 9 hours.
Cost: approximately $120 per person, but this varies according to the number of passengers
Contacts: Rohan Clarke on
