Gday, hoping to id a bird heard calling but not sighted. Call is 8 descending notes. Bit like a pallid cuckoo but running down the scale not up. Have looked through field guides but cant match it to anything. Bird was up top of the tree canopy, Hawkesbury NSW.
thanks
Mike
White-throated gerygone has a descending call.
Fan-tailed Cuckoos have a rapid descending trill, sort of an inverse Pallid Cuckoo...?
Brush Cuckoo has a descending call, but it mght be a bit early for them to have arrived
White-throated Treecreeper?
LM
thank you for the responses
Snail, slow call from a white throated treecreeper seems a match. One of those things ive heard in the past but couldnt place.
Scott, I heard the first fantail cuckoo for this spring not long after first light this morning.
cheers
Mike
You won't usually see treecreepers in the canopy though I suppose it is possible.
