Rufous Owls

After numerous searches for a Rufous Owl when in Darwin, I was finally directed to a pair in Cairns. Quite an effort to hold the camera and lens steady at a steepish angle to get a shot through all the leaves and boughs... but pretty happy.

... just down the road !  Those owls should appreciate how far you travelled just to take their photo.

Great shots ... thanks for posting  Its tricky to get a clear shot of just one bird in that short of foliage - so that first shot is a beauty with the two of them unobscured by leaves or branches.

Thanks for all the comments. It was wonderful to see them and a picture was a bonus. I did also appreciate that they both looked at me for that first shot. The only clear view was close in to the main trunk which made the angle severe but I was lent a monopod and tilt head which certainly helped.

Hi Sue, fantastic to find them. I managed to find one in Darwin in July.
Going to Cairns for a few days with another birder soon who is keen to track them down in Cairns Bot gardens if possible.
Did you see them again when you went back?
Any tips on about where to start looking, or GPS?
Thanks KRis

Great shots Sue. It is so difficult to get birds in situations like that and you have nailed it. well done!

Apologies for the delay but off grid as travelling. Try biggest figtree on northern side of Les Davies Park in McKenzie St, Cairns.

Thanks for the comments.
