Myall Park Botanical Gardens

On our recent trip out west in NSW and Queensland our second stop was the Myall Park Botanical Gardens, near Glenmorgan, QLD. The gardens are famous for the Gordon family who tried to save every species of Grevillia in Australia and ended up creating new hybrid species. It's a magnet for honeyeaters and smaller birds. Spiny-cheeked HE, Double-barred finch, Brown-headed HE, Zebra finch, Golden Whistler, White-eared HE, Yellow-faced HE, Spotted Bowerbird.

Great variety of birds alcatraz. The White-earer Honeyeater would be a new one for me. Love how fluffy the YF Honeyeater is

Thanks Devo. Most of these shots were taken at a soak, so the birds were drinking and bathing. Hence the fluffy HE and many of the birds have water droplets on them. Cheers.

Thanks laza. He's actually in the muddy waters of the soak having a bath. Like you have never seen one on the ground before. But this was taken in western Queensland in the current drought conditions.Cheers Murray.

Wonderful work again ... your bird photography is getting better and better!  Are you using the same equipment?

I think the first male golden whistler I saw was having a bath ... but other than that I dont recall seeing one on the ground either.  I had not realised until i saw your brown headed HE photo that they are similiar to the white naped etc HEs.

Thanks WD. I am always making adjustments to my settings to improve sharpness. My Nikon is an entry-level so it has limitations, but I think working on techniques as well as settings is helping. I am also starting to use a monopod and tripod. I have now had my big lens (150 - 500mm) for 11 months, so there should be improvement! Myall Park is a great spot for HEs. Cheers

Great pictures of HEs, I am seeing more and recognising more Honey Eaters, but there is such an amazing number and variety.
