A love affair with Rufous Fantail

About 12 months I saw a bird of incredible beauty. I looked down into some mangroves on the Albert River at Eagleby wetlands and saw a Rufous Fantail with his tail feathers extended, his wings out and looking back at me. It was just an orange flash, and he was gone. No time for a snap. Just in my brain. I have been on the hunt to replicate that image, only this time with my camera. Not there yet, but the beauty of this species is simply alluring.

You done very well there alcatraz - excellent shots of the rufous fantail. Beautiful bird especially when the fantail is opened. Interesting to see the sort of nest they construct.

Definitely one  of the flightiest of birds, and very difficult to get a good shot of.

Wonderful bird, great shots. I've only see the grey fantail in the wetlands.

Yes I can understand your lova afair with them, and the fact they play hard to get makes you want them even more. Photos of them that is. You have done well. Their nest looks very similar to a Willy Wagtails only a bit deepermaybe.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Am on the road again so will keep it short. The nest is quite interesting as they use a lot of spider webs. Will resume my quest for the perfect shot when I get back home.

I have only ever seen a glimpse of these birds as they fly through an area of northern Sydney.  Beautiful photos so far!
