Mackay surprise

On our recent caravan trip north to Eungella National Park, 60 km inland from Mackay, we stayed at a Mackay caravan park on the way home. We were heading off to the Mackay Botanical Gardens to see what water birds were around and had gone about 250 metres from the caravan when we spotted these ducks in a vacant block. Both were new to me: Plumed Whistling Duck and the Burdekin Duck. First time I have taken two new species in one snap!

Well done to get them both in one shot. I had to look up Burdekin Duck as I had never heard of it before. I found out its just another name for the Radjah Shelduck. You learn something every day

Thanks Devo, Yep, up north they call them Burdekin Ducks. Funnily enough we lived in Townsville for 10 years and I cannot recall seeing one up there. Cheers, Muzz
