Whistling Kite - Black Swan Lake WA

First time on BIB. I am an enthusiast with a camera. Love discovering local wild life. Not an expert by any stretch of the imagination I rely heavily on Simpsons Feild Guide and sites like this to ID my finds. A couple of recent shots a our local Whistling Kite. Got some local Ospreys on my list later.

Thanks, we are lucky to have some lakes and wetlands with all manner of bird life here. Patience and percerverence paid off.

A great morning for hunting, good vis. low wind. Both were active today. I have seen these guys actively hunting other small birds in flight. Cant quite the shutter onto it yet. Maybe one day.

How do you find the 18-400 lens?

My mum was looking for something a bit smaller than her 150-600 Tamron lens for when she goes overseas.

The Tamron 18 - 400 is a great all round lens without the bulk of the larger telephoto lenses. ( I have a 120 -400 on my older sony system, a great monster of a thing) It gives great flexability and the quality of the images is very good. I know this type of lens attracts its critics but for the enthusiast looking to have a  go at anything for fun, it is a great lens that negates the need to change lenses letting in dust and other rubbish into your expensive camera body too.
