SPENT a few hours in Lamington National Park this week and was lucky enough to capture this Alberts Lyrebird, a first for me. He was shy but became distracted while having an early morning preen and did not notice me. This was shot hand-held at 1/30 second using my 150 - 500 mm birding lens. Another first for low shutter speeds. This lyrebird species is only found in pockets of elevated rainforest in the Gold Coast/Tweed hinterland.
Well done, I have spent a lot of time on Green Mountain ( O'reillys) trying to get an Alberts or even the superb lyre bird without any clear view to get a shot. They have all been down in thick undergrowth scratching leaf litter looking for food.
Thanks Doug. I would have taken about 50 shots of him scratching around the base of rocks before he disappeared momentarily and then appeared on top of a large rock and started to preen himself, oblivious to my prescence. Pure luck on my part and the 50 shots on the ground were useless! Cheers mate.
