NHHE

Another one of my New Holland Honeyeaters. Took this shot in our garden yesterday.

I've tried a few times to make a distinction between male and female NHHEs but have never been able to.

Occasionally I see one like this, with blue eyes, is this a female or a juvenile, anyone know..?

Cheers,

Ron.

Iv never noticed that some have blue eyes. But I’m pretty shaw the juveniles are a brownish colour, from what iv seen. The blue eye colouring might just be a variation in different birds two.

Wimmera mally region, Vic.

I just checked in my Slater Field Guide, it says the juveniles do have the grey/blue eyes...no mention of the female thoiugh...?

Not sexually dimorphic.

Juveniles have grey eyes.

Maybe the transition between the two sometimes show pale blue.

Or could be reflection and/or light conditions.

Yes, I reckon it's a juvenile, I'v seen this several times before in some of my other shots...
