Single bird, alone & hungry, so it may be an escaped/released pet, ie, not native
Location, Adelaide outer northern suburbs.
Tiny, size of a sparrow or slightly smaller.
Dark grey head, white collar, violet body and wings. Prominent white rings around eyes.
Its beak shape says it probably a member of the parrot family.
Definitely absolutely looks nothing like a budgie
Can't get close enough to get a good photo of such a tiny bird.
I'm going to go with Gouldian Finch, native to Australia, but given your near Adelaide, would agree an escaped pet. There are so many colour variations, both wild and captive bred, so I suggest you google them, you might find something close.

Thanks, but no. I got a bit closer, and its eyes weren't as close as I thought, I was tricked by a white patch between the eyes.
And the beak, which is a pale orange, is definitely parrot shaped not finch shaped.
Yeah sorry, I missed the bit about the parrot shaped beak, was then thinking Lovebird, but they are bigger!
So I really have no idea.

Lovebird was what the internet came back with when I tried to find something based on a description. Some of them come in the right colours. And have the very prominent ring around the eye. But, yes, they are one size bigger.
