Spotted Harriers putting on a show

I just could not choose between these shots of immature Spotted Harriers so wanted to share them ... seen in Chat Alley near Lake Cargelligo, NSW. With water filling the sides of the road, the raptors were constantly flying over. They also landed on the bushes and peered in looking for prey.... needless to say, the little birds went to cover. In the first shot, a Brown Falcon joins the fray.

Yep, that was my feeling at the time. They just cruised along and landed quite often in the bushes. I just stood on the road and watched.  I think most of them are young birds with that streaking... the black unbarred wingtips were a good pointer to Spotted not Swamp Harrier.

Thanks, Dev... I had great trouble choosing between pictures! I think that the last two might be my favourites along with the overhead one peering down at me. A real treat!

Sometimes it all comes together - you have a magical sighting AND you get it together to capture some of it :-)
