Hmmmmm!

About 6 weeks ago I saw a broad-winged raptor, grey above, paler grey below, about the size of a Goshawk. Late this afternoon I saw two of the same, accompanied by the warning calls of a variety of birds, mainly New Holland Honeyeaters. Each of the birds I've seen was flying at a similar height to the Brown Goshawk(s) I've seen occasionally here on the south eastern slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges.

After scrutinizing The Australian Bird Guide by Menkhorst et al my best guess is that the birds were Grey Goshawks, a species I've not seen here before. Where I live is within the distribution range of the Grey Goshawk but not the Grey Falcon which, in any case, has narrower wings.

Am I on the right track?

Meanwhile & shortly after my sighting of the "Grey Goshawk" tonight, a Collared Sparrow Hawk flew into our lounge window & alighted in the tree above our large bird bath giving Ms Woko & I an excellent view of its lack of a beetle brow!

Could be Woko - hard to tell, right? Great to have such a good sighting of the Sparrowhawk - I would have been taking advantage of its temporary headache to get a good closeup photo :-)

Unfortunately, it takes me a month or two to extract my camera from its bag & put it all together, Alex. One day I'll put it on the tripod near the window. Too many other things to do at present!
