Must have been nice to catch-up with family, it has been a hard couple of years for some, separated from loved ones.

It's nice to see birds from other parts, NZ is almost our backyard. Some great shots in that lot, thinking the Tui and NZ Falcon are my faves. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Dale. It was great catching up with my family. Nearly 3 years since I have seen most of them.

Next lot of birds are from Kapiti Island - which is a nature reserve not far from Wellington.

Stitchbird

North Island Robin

Weka

Kokako

Saddleback

Red-crowned Parakeet

Takahe

Kaka

A couple from the beach before heading off to Kapiti Island

Variable Oystercatcher

Kelp Gulls were everywhere. Nest even along rivers inland. Saw them in paddocks as well while travelling. They are know has Southern black-backed Gulls over there.

White-fronted Terns

And a couple more back on my Dad's property

Song Thrush - lots of these around Dad's home.

Grey Warbler or Grey Gerygone

Hedge Sparrow or Dunnock - I knew them as a Hedge Sparrow growing up.

And a Bumblebee just because..

Beautiful set of photos, Abby. Some real stunners! I think that the Bellbird, Falcon and Tui must be my favourites but so many unusual birds seen on your trip.

European Goldfinch

Monarch Butterfly - couldn't resist.

Abby those shots are amazing.loving all from this series. I think I like the Monarch the best, such a difficult task to get such clarity on a small subject.

Thanks Dale and Sue. This should hopefully be my last post from this trip.

Silvereye - I knew these as Waxeyes growing up.

I am fortunate that my Dad has a holiday house at Foxton Beach which has a estuary at it. So a nice spot for birding plus relaxing!

Bar-tailed Godwits visit here, plus Pied Stilts, South Island Oystercatchers and a couple of other shore birds.

Wrybills - is a species of plover endemic to NZ

Australasian Shoveler - was very neat seeing these here.

Sacred Kingfishers - Noticed a lot of these on my trip back.

New Zealand Grebe or New Zealand Dabchick - saw these up in Rotorua

New Zealand Scaup - Also known as Black Teal - love the colours of this duck.

And finally, while staying with my brother on his yatch, we saw Orcas!

I'm hoping I haven't forgotten anything. Anyway thanks for coming along with my birds from NZ and a couple of extras.

Aww loving all those New Zealand specials, the Orcas would have been awsome to see, and so close to shore. Fantastic photos yet again.
