I love the caspian tern, Dale - fun to watch when they are fishing and a challenge to shoot in the dive.

Thanks Michael, I did see it dive and successful with a catch, but I wasn't ready for the shot. A work in progress, next time!

So today is the last day of another year. A few more to add, and then officially declaring my innings over for 2023. 153, not bad for a mug who has spent most of his time stuck on an island!

There will be a few extra photos, some better some not. Anyway HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Thankyou for all your kind comments and participation this year.

Special thanks to Karen and Sue for keeping track of the  numbers.

I will finish of with a few pelagic photos (that seems to have made most of my numbers) but before them a little trip a few days ago.

151. Eurasian Skylark - a photo lifer, even if a little EBC'ish. I have seen but never quick enough to get the shot. The photo shows the "white trailing edge" on the wings. I have other photosI thought were Skylarks, but unless there is disagreement on ABID, they shall remain Australasian Pipits.

152. Tree Martin - again very much EBCs, but the white rump is visible.

153. Long-tailed Jaeger - 1st of my pelagic species, but alas the only new one.

And now for a few extras.

Almost missed out on the Swamp Harrier (very poor shot at 150), but the I saw 4 in 3 days. I like this photo showing the rump.

136. Striated Pardalote - missed out on the Spotted and Forty-spot this year, will have to work harder next year. This little one was such a poser, and only a few metres away!

And now to close out a couple of seabirds.

Wow, Dale, an impressive number for a small island guy. I love those pelagic birds especially those Petrels and the Striiated Pardalote is a beauty. Happy New Year.

Love the pelagic work Dale. You can tell it's your number one passion now, the pictures and detail are just incredible.

Congrats on cracking the 150 for the year :) and thank you for so many beautiful birds and photos. Your use of light and colour is top-notch, especially with the smaller birds. I never tire of seeing your photos.

Great, Dale! Thanks for being an inspiration for pelagic trips. I love that white-faced storm petrel - hard to believe they exist out there, hopping from crest to crest, and you have captured that perfectly.

All the best for 2023!

Thanks for the company, Dale. What a great year and a privilege to spend that day with you. Looking forward to more wonderful pelagic birds this coming year. Tommy nailed it with his comments. Impressive!

Thanks all, the new year is near and I have started to get some birdies. Hope to start a new challenge week. Not sure who will join, but hey, I would be happy just to throw some photos up.

Pelagics are amazing, and I have learnt a lot from a range of sources, including here. Pelagic season starts soon, so keep, your eye out, I have an excuse to post some familiar species.

Sue, we enjoyed our day together, found and photographed some great birds. Hopefully one day we can do it again, and of course it will be fantastic to meet more of you guys.
