Don't see this guy very often, he also has a interesting call, very 'cheerful'.

Thanks for looking Ed - I looked the Triller up - seems they are migratory from New Guinea & Timor, arriving in Aus about now. I wonder if they get as far as SA? The female looks to be quite browner in colour - did you see her when photographing yours?

You are doing so well Lyn - love that colour!
Tassie should love it too ... if not as an alarm clock then at least as "Pies" supporter!

Hi Lyn
That is the male in breeding plumage, although some guides do say 'migrant to northern islands', others say 'not many Australian birds make it out of the country' with most of the movement north south in Oz. Our local birds are sedentary or locally nomadic and turn up at any time, normally it is the nonbreeding male or female that I see. They appear to be unreliable in so far as they may breed in large numbers in an area one year and then not be seen in that area for many years after. My Atlas of Aust Birds (an old one) shows a fairly high breeding rate in SA.So you may see them from now till around March.

Tark - I have been very quiet with Tassie after what his Magpies did to my Beloved Crows!

Ed - Thank you -I will keep my eyes open for the Triller - I can't recall ever seeing it here in the Adelaide Hills, but it would be fun to spot one!

HI Lyn
I have seen them nere Scone west of Newcastle NSW but only once so they get that far down top photos to.

Tassie

Ooops sorry Lyn about your beloved Crows, we got ours anyway.
Tark, I don't love the Colliwobbles anymore lol.
Dingo I read your post and cringed at the name Newcastle, I got caught in the Sandstorm on Wednesday (Not Fun)
could not wait to get out of the joint.
If any of you live in Newcastle or nearby I found a great spot for pics.

HI Tassie
You would have gone right past my door mate just north of Raymond Terrace you did have to call on the worse day of the year LOL.
PS Yes and where.

Tassie

Gidday Dingo, Mate I drove through Hexam turned left heading in your direction, then turned into Tourle street.
I actually loaded at the coal reclaimers if you know where that is.
Mate the birding spot was a large water hole on the left hand side of Cormorant drive.
I would have stopped there if the condtions were not so bad.
There were heaps of birds there mate.

HI Tassie
Yes mate that would be good next time
The water holes are drying up around here that's why the birds are gathering at what water is left. You where about 5km from the Stockton Nature Reserve where the migratory wading birds come every year not a bad spot to get photos.

Tassie

Too cool Dingo I will let you know when I am doing my next one.
You are right about the water situation, its the same here mate.
