Showtime

Taken yesterday with my new E-3 this sequence actually preceded my current Black-faced Shag post. In crystal clear water I saw what at first appeared to be a fast moving shark until it surfaced about 20 metres from where I stood and began performing some violently spectacular agitations.
.
Swimming rather water-logged after hunting fish I figured it must be about to preen itself. Conveniently for me it found an ideal rock where for an hour or so it dried and preened itself.

It may be beautiful one day and perfect the next Tark, but my shots are still crap in the trees where the birds are and the sun isn't!!

What a great series, Tark. Very sharp despite lots of movement. Don't yoiu love that green eye ? The E3 appears to have superior focussing ability when compared with your "old" 520. I pretty sure that you're using the same lens as you were with the 520. Looking forward to more of your shots.

Cheers,

birdie and bush thanks for the jovial comments! :-)

Thanks George. I do love that eye colour although I see it as aquamarine (quibbling!). The E-3’s focusing is currently claimed to be the world’s fastest when coupled to Olympus SWD (Supersonic Wave Drive) lenses. The 70-300mm, F4-5.6 (140-600mm equiv) coupled to the E-520 that I have been using all along is good under bright conditions but can render noisy images in low light situations such as birds in trees; hence my upgrade to E-3 at treble the price (you get what you pay for … hopefully!)
.
The transition from one to the other is proving easier than I thought because the menu layout and basic functions are pretty much the same. The critical difference of course is the E-3’s sensor and image processor; it’s built like a Bushmaster PMV!
.
Having recommended it to Lyn I am not in anyway suggesting that the E-520 is not a good camera for money, as it certainly is. She uses the same lens.

Sorry to dissapoint Tark but got nothing in Townsville, I just wanted to get home so I did not muck around.
Mate I posted a larger pic of my avatar under social it gives you a good idea of how bad it, and the wind was literally lifting me at times.

Thanks mate, just checked it out, looks like a Western Star. My recently retired b-i-l was part of Kenworth's management team. He loves trucks and pretty much anything but prams on wheels!

Tassie

Yep its a "Star" mate, Kenworths are good to.

I may have the same lens Tark - but a long, long, long way from the same technique and beautiful shots!
I love the preening shot, but the whole sequence is great!

Tassie - Thought of you when we saw the horrendous red dust.

Just thought you Easterners may like a bit of good old South Aussie dirt to top up with.
