had a good 1/2 hr this morning with a pair of Boobie or gannet after all the discussion yesterday I now think I to have to go with Jr Gannet looking at the wing markings but hard to tell from the one's i posted yesterday.
These shots are 6 in sequence and at the speed in which they dive your lucky to get any in focus these guys go into a dive in a split second,
No1 glideing.
No2 Starting Dive
No3 Gathering Speed

Wicked!! ...
I've never noticed them before,
my 6 yr old and I went to the "shore bird" reserve near there to see if we could get some nice pics, about a month or so ago.... and it must have been the one time there were no birds at all.. LOL.
Being in Ningi, just over the passage, I havent seen any from this side when I go down to turners cam either ... will definitely have to keep a better eye out for them :)

This is the first time I have seen them down this way, I took these just by the wire fence of the Bird sanctuary I live about half way up the beach, Eagle Ct so I get to go every morning .

They are a real challenge to follow aren't they Bygum? I had so much fun when I saw them last time. it was the first time I had really tried my monopod out and taken the camera off auto properly to catch the action . the wing retractions are amazing. I could watch them all day.
BTW.... I really do think they are Juv Gannets . I have hunted down so many pics now to be sure of my ID. it's all good though as i gained a lot of knowledge in the process and discovered a great site on the colony in Galapagos.
Great shots

Wow... great set of photos. Good camera control to catch this one in motion.
great series bygum. what are the pinkish blurs in the last 3 shots? thanks for sharing.
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Thanks Birdie, Peter, Heva1 for your feed back.
The marks you see are a dead bush that was in the way but the camera so right through them and kept focused on the bird.
Peter I have put a lot of time into keeping my eye on them lol but it pays off in the end.
Yes Birdie they are Gannets, when I first seen them and took them it was from the underside and a level shot which lead me to think they where boobies now I see the marking on top Gannets for sure.
Thanks for your feed back.

hi bygum, just a quick question...in another thread you were talking about photoshop...would that be something you could use to get rid of the leaves blur in the last 3 shots? I ask because I have cisticolla shot that has the same leaf blur... I haven't tried erasing ...but the thought occured to me when I saw ur shot and previous thread on using photoshop. Thanks.

Hi Heva1
Yes it can be took out by cloning you wont be able to take it out of the bird but that does not matter as once you take it from the water you wont see it in the bird I have put to shots the first is with the bush which I have reduced in size for the page.
The second is with the bush cloned out reduced and cropped took about 10min with the mouse so not perfect but good enough for a forum.
Note you can not erase other wise it would erase it all.
hope this helps.
