I Spied a Pied Cormorant

Hello, I've just joined this forum, because I saw an unfamiliar bird on the pond yesterday. I saw it again today. Got pictures of it and was able to film it a little bit. Here's a link to the film I made about the pied cormorant in Daylesford, Victoria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL11hy3vfm4

Well done Carla and welcome aboard, I would love to live where you do, I love the countryside down there.

Thanks, Tassie. I'm so glad I found this forum. Daylesford is a beautiful place, and I feel blessed to be living here, surrounded by garden and forest. Lots of birds to watch!

Now that I understand the picture posting process...here's a picture of the pied cormorant that came back again today.

I appreciate the patience of the forum, while I figure out the best way to share the pictures I have taken. This is a cropped version of one of my pictures of the pied cormorant that visited my front yard today.

Nice shots Carla, that is a very nice part of the country you are staying in.

Thank you for the correction, Amateur. ;-) And thank you for the comment and welcome, Cath and Shane. I am really enjoying the beauty of Daylesford. There's been a lot of fog lately, and the area looks a lot like my more familiar places -- Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee.

The little pied cormorant was here again today. Here's one of the many pictures I took today.

On the first day I saw this bird I thought I would never see it again.....but I think he has moved into our garden, and I think I made my iMovie too soon! Here's a link to today's film of the little pied cormorant flapping his BIG wings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c-oSFmqXGU

I love your little movie of the Pied Cormorant, he certainly looks very comfortable there near the pond. Hope you dont lose too many fish.

Thank you Cath and Shane. I think the little pied cormorant has moved on now. It's been a few days since the last visit. I'm REALLY hoping that doesn't mean the pond is empty! This is the first year that baby fish have been sighted in the pond. Six giant goldfish have been living there for about seven years. In April of this year I saw A LOT of little fish, probably too many for the pond....so I'm hoping things are just balanced out now, after the little pied cormorant's visit!

Here's a glimpse of the goldfish that I saw a few months ago when there must have been 100 or so little fish. Luckily, they are REALLY good at hiding.
