Nice set of images, Owen. You have been a little more successful than I have with those Brown Falcons at the WTP. Love the Robin shot, too. I think your second shot could be a Striated Fieldwren. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Owen, I don't know how to explain it, but there is something so beautiful in the eyes of the brown falcon. (I'm a hopeless romantic? But it is the same thing, that touches my heart, when I listen to classical music) It's just hard to describe. And I have a soft spot for little Thornbills. Thanks Owen, nice photos! M-L

Great collection of birds. You are lucky to get so close to the brown falcon - they are pretty wary. You have a lovely golden light - was it late afternoon?
Thanks Birdgirl. The ones at the treatment plant were very early morning and the dove and pigeon were late afternoon.
The thornbill and robin were taken on an overcast morning.

Hey Owen. Where abouts in the macedon ranges did you get the thornbill shot. The ranges are five minutes up the road from me and have a great diversity of bird life, I recommend the short walks near the lake (damn) which is on the opposite side to the memorial cross. This time of year the robins are very active.
I agree about your comments of underrated pigeons etc. One of my most loved species is the humble (introduced) Spotted Dove. So pretty. But of course owls are better. :-D

Thanks Andy. berldo the thornbill (a small group of them) were seen near Black ranges in shrubs and trees near the intersection of Romsey and Black range roads. it was only around 30-30 metres up black range road.

I have been super busy with design work and listening to Nick cave and Grinderman (not to mention a healthy dose of Elliot Smith too... google it if you don't know who he was)
My bird watching has been limited but I did catch up with bush bird nerd a couple of months ago. Did a couple of walks near olinda and saw a nice crested shrike tit, king parrots, yellow tailed black cockatoos, thornbills and spinebills.
We then ventured to Yarra bend park and sat around looking at ducks as we discussed the brilliance of "the good son" all the way through to "and no more shall we part"
Ah.... nick cave and bird watching, add some red wine into the mix and you have a great day out.

A good side of the ranges over that way. You get a nice mix of forest dwelling birds from the mountain, and you also get a good range of nice grass birds further on passed Romsey and around Lancefield.
I never knew that area was good for grass birds around Romsey.
