Would be pleased to know the ID of this big bird .
A few months ago it came into my backyard and started to hack off a branch of a wattle tree.
Mostly black with pale yellow on crest and tail.
I live in the West Gippsland area of Victoria and had not previosly noticed this kind of bird here.

Thanks very much for your info.
When he flew away I could see a flash of yellow somewhere on the head. I just presumed it was on the crest.
We do have huge old gum trees with plenty of hollow places in them. I have seen kookaburras and other birds there but not these black cockatoos.
A few pine trees are around the area, but not on my 2 acres.
