Identify this feather?

I am hoping someone can guess what sort of bird this feather might have come from. It is hard to see here, but it has 3 stripes of differing grey/brown colours. As you can see it is slightly larger than a standard wine bottle cork!

The second picture is the underside of the feather.

I think you're pretty close with the wine. Thanks.

Hi Soakes

Was it beside water?
If so, I am going to guess a breast feather of a Mallard duck.
Cheers

Ha! I love the standard of measurement, and I also love the cork identification post! I have no idea what bird the feather is from, though.

Soakes, do you actually know what the bird is, and is this like one of those "guess the bird" photo posts? I loved that game! Or are you actually asking for help identifying the bird?

I have no idea of the type of bird. I hadn't even considered a duck; that is probably a pretty good guess, although most of the duck feathers I see around are brown or green.

The underside feathers are more downy and coloured like the one here, a wing feather would be more brown/green (assuming the species was that colour)
