Waterfowl ID Guide

Following on from Tark's recent discussions about Chestnut Teals and Mallards, and even Blue-winged Shovelers, I came across an extremely useful on line "Guide to Waterfowl".
http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/DSE/nrenrt.nsf/LinkView/DA3E15465FED1BB7CA257376001DA17FC1DB2757E23C4965CA257376001BB03F
.
It is posted by the Victorian Dept which controls Duck Hunting (don't start me on that!).
.
But it has good sketches of all the Australian Ducks (plus Mallards) we are likely to see.
.
It is really useful. It has body sketches (silhouettes), plus sketched images of birds in flight, showing diagnostic wing patches, upper and under, etc.
.
It is very good. We should all "bookmark it" or save as a "Favourite".
.
Cheers

I have just realised they also have attached small videos of birds in flight and on water, with simple voice-overs, to aid in identification.
Obviously it is designed to try to prevent hunters illegally killing protected species, etc.
None-the-less, it ought help people on this forum identify their birds.

Thanks Denis.

Hi Tassie
Glad somebody has found that posting.
Now hopefully we can have more peaceful evenings, instead of two-page round-and-round discussions.
Cheers

Thanks Denis for the link. It is great. As a beginner I am grateful for all these tips.

Thanks Lyn

I remember using a similar guide when I was learning my birds, and it was very useful.
Best of luck.
