Can someone please help me identify this little fellow for me?
It was in Gympie Queensland and the females lloked a lot like the redbacked fairy wrens, but this guy was more brown than black. could it have been in some seasonal change or something?
Thanks
Birdie
Here is another shot of him

Hey Birdie, beautiful bird. Says in my book that 'non-breeding males are sandy brown' so maybe he's a non breeding male?
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Hi Hev ..... what kind of wren?

Yes,Red-backed Wren, they can be seen in all mixes of brown/black/red as they move from eclipse to breeding plumage and back again.

Absolutely, definately a Red Backed wren Birdie.....:)
Thanks everyone. I am getting better at using my field guide and noting the locations for them etc. But I find it doesn't always give the unusual aspects of their details.
I can't believe how hard they are to even see through the lens in the thicket like that. I spend my time taking my glasses off and putting them on (or moving them up and down) so that I can alternate between the actual scene and through the viewfinder with the diopter. Very frustrating. :(
Thanks again
Birdie
