Crikey mate, I don't think a bird that wakes you up in the morning deserves to be shot for that! There has already been a similar thread on this http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/forum/messages.cfm?threadid=731CDFC5-A343-6EB6-3EBAEEEEEFB91F49. I strongly advise you against shooting the thing, it would be very cruel to kill a bird if it's simply calling and happens to wake you up. Hope you can solve the problem in a non-lethal way.
I didn't think you were serious, but even though it is annoying, I wouldn't worry too much as they must be due to return north within a few weeks. I think they are seasonal everywhere........... that is unless you already live up north :)
They have quietened right off here and they were driving everyone nuts around Xmas.I am told that at the end of the season here they go fly around gathering their kin and wing off to Indonesia or somewhere.
Good luck
Hi Kaimingc,
I haven't listened to the audio but the images are of a Channel-billed Cuckoo.

thanks for the reply.
apart from buying a gun and shooting the thing, are there any other deterrents that these birds don't like ?

You should get used to the calls. Only unknown sounds wake me in the mornings. :)
