New greyhound! Yee ha!

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to share my joy and excitement about the fact that my new greyhound, Lucy, is being delivered to me on Tuesday. Yey!

Just wanted to share that with people.

Andy.

Sounds exciting. What kind of greyhound? Rescued or racing?

Rescued with literally minutes to spare! She was taken to the vet to be euthanased because she wasn't a good racer. But the vet put her into a rescue organisation.

I'm incredibly excited. Thanks for humouring me :-)

Hats off to you Andy! :) I was hoping you'd say rescue.
I would love to euthanize the mongrel people that do that sort of thing to a voiceless and helpless animal that depends on them for their welfare. Selfish xxxxxxxxx xx x x x x x x x x x ------ you can probably read what I am thinking.
Not surprising that my wife told me that practically every dog they dissect for learning purposes at the uni labs (she is a vet student) is a greyhound. :(

Can you post an image of your doggie? Just remember 500 pixels wide so it fits the forum layout! :) Please! We have three rescue dogs (not greyhounds though), six cats (four rescued) and another four cats (mum and three kittens) in rescue phase now awaiting adoption. It is nice to be able to offer a hand to abandoned animals. :) But many more out there.

HI Andy

Well done :') Now at least I know you stood me up for a really good cause!!! I see a greyhound whippet cross in the mornings when I am walking the dog and her owners say she is beautiful to own. It is horrible the way they treat greyhounds in the racing industry.
Wish we could have a dog here.... but I am content to walk someone elses dog as he wouldn't get a walk every day otherwise :)

Birdie and Windhover,

Thanks for your lovely responses. And yes Birdie, of course I had a good reason to stand you up!!

I've never been involved in greyhound racing, but I think that some of the people in the industry are very lovely. They treat their dogs nicely and, when their racing days are over, they put the dogs into a great rescue organisation to ensure that they go to a good home. But Windhover, you're right, not everyone is so nice.

Will post photos soon. (And Birdie, I still have to post photos of my special sighting from the Gold Coast! I haven't forgotten.)

My dogs are very special to me, and the entire reason I'm moving house is so that I can get a second greyhound. My partner said he wants there to be more room between him and the animals. Ie, if we're in the lounge room, and the dogs are in the lounge room, John doesn't want that to mean that the dogs are necessarily ON HIM. So, the day after we move into the new house, I get my new dog!

Bye for now,
Andy.

Congrats and enjoy your new Greyhound. Yes they make really great pets and tend to live a life of relaxation. Good luck!

Great news Andy :)

I saw on DOL you were getting another. They are like potato chips - can't just have one.
I have tried working on my husband for another iggy (another greyhound would take up just a bit too much room), no luck yet. We are now helping Iggy Rescue now though (my other passion outside Birds in Backyards).

I tend to agree with ya Andy. I am sure there are more good greyhound racing people than not. I guess the bad ones give the really wonderful, caring ones a nasty rep too. :( Enjoy the doggie! On that note, if anyone you may know would like to adopt kittens..... we have three that we saved with their mother from a barn of abandonment. You can see them here. Should be ready to go in a week or so...

Hi all, what lovely people you are, this makes me cry! my daughter works in an animal emergency centre, that's exactly how all of us got so many animals. She brings cats and dogs home, neglected and misstreated (sometimes unspeakably tortured)animals. The last cat had superglue put up her anus, but she survived. One cat she took home was stomped on by the owner, and had a broken pelvis. We found new owners for 25 starving horses. We have 4 dogs, and 3 rescue cats. But Greyhounds are a very different topic. This is no secret,(or may be it is?),Greyhounds are the best blood doners, they are gentle and patient,so they come to vet centres, and donate their last blood, hooked up until there is nothing more to give, before they are put to sleep. What a sad end for an animal, that has mostly been exploited for all it's life! I can not thank you enough Andy, and all of you, for all the dogs that can not speak. And, John, you will love the dog as much as Andy will!! Good luck!!1
