Here are two of my frog photos :)

Green Tree Frog

Not sure what kind of frog this is.

Elle,
I am pretty certain that your second frog is an Emerald-spotted Frog (aka Peron's) but Emerald-spotted Frog sounds better than Peron's to me. Also my mate tells me that Monsieur Peron was a rude person who often pinched other scientists' works and claimed them as his own. Hence why I no longer call them as such. :)

Hi Elle, Hi Akos, the more I look, the more emerald spots the frog gets!LOL A lot like children with chicken -pox, the more you look, the bigger the rash...., if you get my drift. At first I hardly noticed them. As for Monsieur Peron, there lots of them, not an endangered species!

Hi Windhover. Yes I agree, Emerald-spotted Frog does sound better - alot better!! Araminta, I never really noticed the green spots until I took this photograph. I was pleasantly surprised!! :)

I was flicking through some of my old photos when I found this frog which I had totally forgotten about. I have absolutely no idea what it is so an answer would be appreciated.

Hi Amateur, looks a lot like the Emerald-spotted frog (Peron)?? One question, where was the photo in your avatar taken?

Exactly what I was thinking... on both counts :')

Isn't the flog a bit plain for a Peron's? I was just browsing through some photos on google and personally they look more colourful (comparetively).

The photo was taken at my Grandomther's place, we have a bonfire every 3 or 4 years or so (with permission of course) which we spend most of the night watching, basically it's full of branches and stuff that come after a few years on a couple of hecatres of land full of trees etc. Unfortunately it certainly isn't a small fire so there's no roasting marshmallows going on. Personally I love the farm, it's the only place where I can see wild hares, foxes etc. and I love the cows that are there!

This is my favourite called Star :)

Hi again Amateur, I just read what Elle said about her Peron frog, she said, that she hadn't noticed the emerald spots at first? Nice cow, good cow, behind fences for me.I'm good with all animals, snakes, spiders, rats, mice and others. No idea why, but cows are the only animal I'm scared of!-:)

Araminta
Araminta's picture

Tassie, what sort of frog? Peron? ( Is that you driving that 'Monster-Truck"? WOW!!)

M-L

Tassie

Hi Araminta, I am not sure what sort of frog I have not looked it up I thought I would throw it up for everyone else to have a go at...lol
Thats not me in that particular truck but yes thats what I drive now, that one there only has 3 trailers a lot of the time they have 5 with another engine situated between the 3rd and 4th trailer to help pull/push the 500 tons of weight.

Araminta
Araminta's picture

Ooooo, that would be a "MONSTER"! Wouldn't want to back that one up!!! They only move forward, don't they?

M-L

Tassie

Its pretty rare that they back up but if you have to they only stay straight for about 40 metres but if you have to its got to be straight before you start....lol

Wanda
Wanda's picture

Hi Tassie, is that you and your truck? Wow!

Tassie

Gidday Wanda, I have changed the profile pic since my last post. Yep thats me with one of the 5 trailer road trains, we are contracted to haul large amounts of coal over longer distances the large Dump trucks are not able to travel very far at all so they bring it down to the haul roads and we take it from there.

Wanda
Wanda's picture

Boy 5 trailer road train, I thought the road trains I saw in NT a few years ago were big. And you still manage to spot birds while driving one of those big machines. :-)

Tassie

Yes Wanda, they are big alright, I can "spot" birds in these but no photo's, I counted 13 Black swans on the main dam yesterday, one has 4 signets.
There are a lot of Brown Falcons and a pair of Crested Grebes out here too that I watch all the time....the wild pigs here on the mine lease are that tame that they walk past us within 100 mtrs, every now and then they trap them.
All the wildlife here seems to know that it is not going to be harmed.

Wanda
Wanda's picture

Although you are on the job you certainly have a nice place to spot the wildlife. I know you would not be one to take photos while driving. :-) The Brown Falcons would be great to watch and how sweet the Black Swans on the dam. Wow about the wild pigs that you can be so close. What a nice thought for the wildlife there that they seem to know they are safe.

Great photos everyone. It seems a lot of bird lovers also like frogs.I am also glad to notice that since the arrival of Cane Toads at my place about four years ago, there has been no obvious effect on native frog populations. There has also been no noticable drop in Black snake, Goanna or other frog eater numbers.
I wonder why most of our frogs have french scientific names and french people are called frogs. Ray

Araminta
Araminta's picture

Hi raysimula, French people are of great intellect, and many scientists and philosophers were (and are) French!! Well, you guessed it, I AM FRENCH ! And, on the one hand I'm happy, you think that the Cane Toads haven't done much damage at your place. As for me, I find it regrettable, if the Black Snakes are in decline, but even more so is the decline of the Goanna !!!! Both are important to the Australian wildlife!!!

Thanks birdie, and i'm so sorry Ray, to have mis-read , what you said about the snakes and the goannas, as you said, "there is NO noticable decline!!! I apologize again!! Still, I stand by, what I said about "the French"

Love the frogs, so many of these I have never seen. We used to get so many, mainly tree frogs and green frogs, but a few others, but lost a lot during the drought when we were away from home a lot in the caravan. (lost some plants too of course). It is great seeing all these pics from your gardens. We are always pleased when we find a frog in our garden. Lizards and skinks are a bonus too, also the occasional snake, and we did have a blue-tongue but he seems to have moved on. Thanks for sharing all these good pictures.
