What Music do you listen to?

Something different... and just out of curiosity :)
Yeah I'm pretty sure all of us here have a library of CDs of assorted bird calls from the city to the surf to the rainforests but we can't avoid listening to the scores and the lyrics composed by human beings too (or in some cases - machines and vocaloids). Have a favourite genre, band, artists, album, song or composer? Share it here!

For me, I am an avid fan of Rock Classics (you know, the hits of the late 60's to early 90's) and Heavy Metal (old and new and Scandinavian). A handful of bands I listen to most are Queen, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, The Beatles, ELO, INXS, Icehouse, David Bowie, Metallica, Swallow the Sun, Hevisaurus, Korn and Slipknot. I am also obsessed with the hits of the 80s - cool stuff :)

Coldplay, and the good stuff from the 60's. It gets me as close as I can get to the 60's muscle cars I love.

Hi Taz,I was born into a house filled with music, and I married a man who came from a house filled with music. I listen to music every day, and wouldn't want to be without it!! Hard for me to name my favourites, but I will try! First there are all the ones starting with "B", Beethoven, Bruckner, Bruch, but mostly BRAHMS. Then all Baroque Music. Next would be: Dvorak,Shostakovich and TCHAIKOVSKY. But on top of my list is: MAHLER and RACHMANINOV ! I also love Jazz, Jacques Lousier, Keith Jarret, Stan Getz.....! And modern experimental music, like AKTION UNIT and LAME FOOT,and some Indie Rock. There is much much more, to much to list them all. M-L

Ok not many people interested in this topic. I will expand by saying Jimi Hendrix, Cream, (I know there not all '60s stuff) Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, "Born to be wild" by Steppenwolf(the best song they ever did, in my mind) to name a few. To add to the more recent stuff: Snow Patrol and Adele. Also "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins. I have started to listen to classical music. Like Bach, Mozart and Pachelbel. I really like Wagner's "The Valkyrie: Ride if the Valkyries".

I have a pretty broad range of music that I love. Was a teenager in the 60's so still enjoy Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Hollies and other English bands of that era. Also love blues from John Myall, Van Morrison, Blues Brothers and good rock and roll. Some of my other favourite groups include Creedence Clearwater Revival, Little River Band, Daddy Cool, The Shadows, The Delltones, Crowded House, Human Nature, The Drifters. Favorite individual artists include John Williamson, Graeme Connors, Acker Bilk, Stephan Grapelli, David Campbell. Also love bird calls especially magpies and butcher birds.

lol I am surprised that Birdie is the only one who mentioned Lady Gaga (well I'm sure most of us would be getting tired of hearing about her)
Haha Akos, I don't think I pronounce half the bands I listen to correctly. I'm worse, I say "Ramm-styne". I'm not too much into Industrial Metal but I've heard a bit from them and I quite like a bit of Turmion Kätilöt. Yes I have to agree that Iron Maiden, Opeth and Children of Bodom are awesome.
Araminta wow so Indie and Underground :) never heard any of the bands you listen to. But I have to agree with most of your classical selections: Rachmaninoff is the best.
Nice range mrtattoo and nikko :D My favourite birdcalls are of the rose robin, olive whistler, eastern whipbird and the magpie. Not my own recordings though.
I grew up listening to the radio: WSFM, Triple M and Vega (classic rock FM)
So Owen, Wattlebird, QLDBird and Amateur I approve of your playlists :)

Though, I don't have any recordings of bird calls. (Something I wish to fix soon by recording some myself.) I like the call of Magpies, Currawongs, butcherbirds and bell miners the best.

Tazrandus

Yeah the birds of the Artamidae family tend to have marvellous complex vocalising abilities. Good luck with the recording!

O my god, and how about the Village People?? Back then, we lived in a house, that was part of 48 Terrassed Houses. We were all the same age, most with young children. Everyone had a "Party Cellar", you always knew if there was a party somewhere, the walls used to shake, when people did the stomping dancing and sang those YMCA songs. (you are far too young to remember!) We just put all the children in one house, some grand mother keeping an eye on them, while we danced in an other.

Yey, you'r my man,SerenityGate, how do you go with experimental music? My son plays in one called: Aktion Unit. They play often at the "old bar" in Fitzroy. We used to go a lot to "The Tote", in the good old days, Hmmmm...
If you look up the top, what I said, you can find I like everything from Classic to Jazz, Modern Minimalism, Experimental,........

M-L

crazeegeoff
crazeegeoff's picture

Hi there Araminta
My first exposure to "experimental music" was in a wine bar in Manly (sydney). A group named Mackenzie's Theory in 1973 or 1974 played and really blew me away (possibly due to some illegal substance I may have consumed) and I bought their LP which is now pretty stuffed.
Some of Hawkwind's music is pretty far out there as well.
The only music I don't really like is (C)rap music, and the modern R & B music.

What I do now is load a few thousand songs on to Media Player and hit shuffle. My computer is hooked up to my Hi-Fi system via low-loss cables under the floor.
I live in a R.A.L. kit home, like an army shed, but comfy.
The eco-village I live in here near Bundaberg, Qld, has 124 blocks about 1 acre, and about 350 acres of common land. I chose my lot because it backs on to acres of common bush land.

Araminta
Araminta's picture

Hi again, I love the RAL kit homes! Many years ago, we , (no I) wanted to build one, or two ,one to live in, the other to sleep in. I thought because of their shape, they would be easy to defend in a fire!? Then we decided a mud brick house would be better where we live. Some of my friends have build an earth house, under the ground, exept for the front, where all the windows are. No heating or cooling needed at all!!There are so many options, sorry to say this, but Australia is lagging behind some of the European countries, using alt. technology. In Germany, they now use the heat from under the house, thermal energy, to heat huge housing estates. Here we still struggle to get solar and wind energy up!!
