That would be the ideal Woko but I think you would have to get rid of the humans first. So you might have to accept a lesser rather.

Oh Night Parrot..... are you new to this forum???   LOL

Believe me this is a very well discussed topic on this forum so expect a lively debate if this gets a separate post. It usually ends with Holly having to step in and give the opinion of Birds Australia :)

We can all wait and watch to see what will eventuate !

Well said Woko...... I have been reading through the postings as I get to them and it certainly has "ruffled a few feathers" if you'll pardon the pathetic humour !

I think this is reminiscent of some of the old discussions on the forum before it was changed, and yes, it is always important to read and respect that others have their opinions and try to educate where possible .

Hi Raven ..... I have to add here  that... like you ... I am guilty of feeding my catbirds ( though irregularly so that they dont become dependent on it) fresh fruit at times and left over cherry tomatoes .  I guess we all do it from time to time. I have no need to feed Lorikeets etc as the trees around here are always abundant with nectar and fruit.  However I am moving house next week unfortunately and the most distressing thing to me will be to lose the interaction with the family of Green Catbirds I have lived with now for 4 years. I have already stopped leavingn food out just in case the next family here are not so bird friendly.

No doubt, Night Parrot. And there's no doubt we don't live in a perfect world - whatever that is.

Well I would like to say well done on a contentious and spirited discussion here nad I have just found out how the 2nd page works etc in this new format.

Russian Bear ... feeding aside I quite liked your photos ... an interesting perspective I thought

Amazed at some of the responses to humans feeding birds, yes, I agree, some people need to lighten up a little...

I misquoted Currawongs time in being fed here too, he first came when my daughter was five, she is now 18 so he's been having his half slice of multigrain toast with salt reduced butter and a liberal swipe of vegemite for 13 years now.  How long do they live for?

Apparently it hasn't done him any harm, we used to have two Kookaburras years back that came every morning for raw meat hand out, two turned into four, four into six and then seven, we stopped, same with the Magpies, one turned into 12 calling in each morning some months later.

Currawong would not touch the meat when we fed the Kookaburras, he would sit and wait for his toast, might be the salt in the vegemite?  He doesn't hang around for further handouts, gets his toast and flies off not to be seen again until the next morning...

Don't feed the Rainbow Lorikeets, heaps of them around here, plenty of natural tucker for them, you feed one or two and before you know it you end up with 20 of the little fellas...

My Grandmother had a pet Cockatoo that lived until around 55 years or so of age, his favourite treats were jelly babies and Cadbury Snack chocolate, not to mention eating the stubs of my Grandfathers cigars too.

You do realise, Raven, that the currawong would be twice as old if you hadn't fed him the nation's taste sensation.
