Birding places around Brisbane and beyond

I have been wondering whether we should make a topic on Birding places around Brisbane for those members that live nearby, to help each other out, and assist people traveling from outer state as there are a lot of places to visit that aren't mentioned elsewhere on the net and as you know you can visit a place on a given day and not see a lot of activity and other times it is running hot, so this might encourage people to try a spot again. This could expand for other states and make it easier if we travel to other places and not waste time searching for somewhere to visit. Your thoughts would be appreciated, just a thought.

I guess by starting this thread, you have created a topic for that! smiley

Just to follow up on that, one of my nearest and favourite local areas is Oxley Creek Common.

I was down there this afternoon for a brief walk with the camera. It was a pretty quiet arvo for birds, although I went to investigate a bird making a racket and found a Lewin's honeyeater alerting the entire world to the presence of a Southern Boobook.

Cheers

I promise not to tell the developers!

I went to Russel Island recently and there was a lot of bird life, cats are discouraged there. Saw a pair of curlews just wandering around. I imagine the other bay islands would be similar.

Would many developers  know or care what a bird was, I doubt many would unless it pooped on their Maserati.

Now there is somewhere I haven't thought about, and I used to spend a bit of time on Macleay Island when I had a boat and wasn't into Bird Photography then. So yes I would think most of the more remote ones like Peel Is and Garden Is could be very rewarding, I do know to watch out for snakes on Peel Is though. Thanks for your input GregL, you have me thinking how hard it would be for me to kayak over to one of them and have a look.

Appreciate your input Peter I have heard about Tinchi Tamba,Douse lagoon and Buckleys Hole on Bribie but haven't been there yet. The Sandy Camp Road one I thought was Port Authority Land or it was when I worked down there for 15 years so that will be a new surprise. The other places are new to me. Thanks again. The mention of Riverdale Park in my op is credited to Karen who told me about it and glad she did, it's a good spot.

Sandy Camp Rd Reserve is opposite a school just after you enter Sandy Camp Rd from North Rd

I should have mentioned this brochure

Thanks Peter I was confusing it with Pritchard St, now I do know where you mean. I have got that brochure and found it useful. I also have 3 pdf files of birding places around Logan which was done with surveys from brisBOCA from 2004-2006 and commissioned by the Logan City Council and have found it to be a well put together guide for the area, I would love to see all the councils follow this idea in the same format. I am not sure how to post or provide these pdf files for others to view, but they can contact Logan Council chambers who will email them to you as they did me.
