Mistletoe Bird

While getting shots of the waterbirds down at the river's edge, I heard a familiar and very sweet call and after somme investigation I found this very friendly little fellow tweeting away merrily next to me ( without a mobile phone too lol)

I have just noticed that if you post a photo but don't make a comment after it then the post does not add your signature. Will get Holly to check if that can be changed.

Absolutely stunning photos Adrienne and I agree with Ray that they are some of the best photos of this species I have seen. Thanks so much for showing them. I will be up your way in a couple of weeks staying in Peregian, so any tips for some places for birding would be appreciated.

Regards

Thanks guys, I took a heap of them but the hardest thing was to expose for both the dark eye and the lighter colours around him. I have found some of this species top be very unconcerned with us especially if they are busy munching on their favourite food. I started taking shots from a distance and just gradually moved closer as he would let me. the best shots for the eye had a really annoying OOF overexposed leaf in the bottom so I decided to use these.

SHane Peregian sits on the edge of the Noosa national park so that is good for all sorts. Coolum  especially Stumers Creek)  has Osprey and Brahminy nests plus I have seen rainbow B/E there at the beach and white cheeked HE on the heath behind the beach. Wrens in the grassed areas at Stumers Creek too Are you looking for any birds in particular...PM me if you want to know any more . Happy to help smiley

Cheers

Lovely shots Adrienne. What metering mode did you use? Check the histogram, because the bird seems underexposed. If you were to expose for the bird you would blow the background, which is normal. That's because the camera sensor cannot deal with such huge dynamic range (light and dark tones).

What you could do if you have this situation (I think you were pretty close to this male judging by the nice image quality) is pop up the little flash on your camera and fill in the shadows with a puff of light. Does wonders when shade covers the bird and the background is lit.

Great effort in any case. yes

I have just noticed the useful content section on our account page...with it you can go back through each of your previous posts instead of trawling through the whole site. I thought I would add a link to a post I did earlier in the year to stress how totally unfair it is that a female has to look so dull in the bird world at times compared to their mates!!!!!

Now I hope this adds my signature as this wass what I wass looking up on the account oage in the first place... I have A.D.D. lol

Thanks Adrienne, I don't know how to PM you, I can't see a link. I am hoping to go to Noosa NP from the Sunshine beach side, Conondale NP ( Booloumba Crk), PT Arkwright, Lake MacDonald, Peregian foreshore for a start. I believe you took some photos of some Rose-crowned Fruit Doves at PT Cartwright, that would be nice to see. I am quite familiar with most of the Sunny coasts areas as I have been comming up  there since I was 17, so a long time now. I would like to chase down some Catbirds and even a Riflebird and your advice where a likely place to see these would be a great help. Don't put pressure on yourself to give me and absolute place to go as I like being in the Forests just walking anyway. Would you know if the upper Noosa river area ( Harry's Hut) is accessable with a medium capable 4wd. Any advice you would like to throw my way will be appreciated gratefully. Thanks in advance and Peregian here I come.

Shane I have sent you a PM on here. it should forward through to your emails. If not then just look at the top right of the BIBY banner and it says messages

I don't know much about Noosa area.  I think the fruit Dove must have been a total fluke as I havent seen it again. Although it has been a while since i have been to point cartwright.
