Lets get this started again, I have missed it!
This week I would love to see some great Galah shots - the clowns of the parrot family (well one of them anyway...)

That is a good fun choice Holly so I'll kick it off for you :)
Here are some older shots i got early one morning up in Woodgate when the Pink and Greys were fooling around
Sunshine Coast Queensland
brilliant shots birdie !!! I had to have a close look at pic No2, at first it looks like 2 birds, but it's only one, isn't it?
(for some reason I don't have any photos, might go out and find some. Galahs are everywhere, we take then for granted. Thanks Holly good choice.

Galahs are so much fun..this lot were playing on the radio antenna in the backyard..such galahs.

Fabulous shots ladies!
ML I love it when I can inspire you to go out and take more photos :)
Great shots Adrienne and Robyn. Mine were taken a while back at Churchill Island.

Last summer.... Just take it easy in the shade for a while
OK I'll pick the best
The one lying back in the shade, that's a corella isn't it? These birds are all clowns and I love watching them show off and be silly.

Yes it is. They mix with galahs here and I think some interbreed. They do put on a show for the camera as I pass by.
I loved looking at the photos of one of my favourite birds (look at my avatar!). We used to have galahs breeding in our galah nesting box but haven't for a few years. But last Thursday a pair started putting leaves in our rosella nesting box. These are the adults and some of our past babies
Lovely birdgirl. Did you build the nesting box? I'm wondering if we should put one or two up around where we live.

Hi Kathie. Yes, my husband built them.I think we got the dimensions from John Dengate's Attracting birds to your garden in Australia. They claimed it before the paint was dry
what did you say?
.... you want pics of Galahs mucking aroung.
OK ... wrong mucking around

I hope this works - I've never uploaded to youtube before. This is a funny video I took of a baby galah begging for food and the parent drooling horribly.
I thought it uploaded because the thumbnail appeared but I couldn't see it anywhere after I saved it. Here's the link

Hi birdgirl,
I was just wondering, what is the role of the PVC pipe you have on top of the nest box?
Extracting hot air? Watering to keep it cool? Simply a place to perch?
It has me intrigued....
I had Pale Headed Rosellas checking out nest box no. 2 this morning at home, which was quite exciting, but I wasn't quick enough with the camera.

OK, Adrienne (Birdie) pressured me into posting this shot. I only got this yesterday and it's a full frame grab shot, literally a grabshot. The Galahs were feeding on wildflowers and suddenly they took off towards me. I only had a split second to aim and fire. Not an easy feat with 700mm focal length.
The Blue Mountains is the background with some of the Penrith Quarries showing at the very bottom.
Great shot windhover. We don't actually get galahs at my place but I see them down the road and at parks and places so I have to go looking for them.

Hi Timmo. That year my husband installed a tiny b&w camera in the box so we could watch the eggs and babies on our TV. The pipe was to stop the galahs chewing the lead and to protect the lead from the weather. It was great at first, but they didn't seem to feed the 2nd baby and it died - after that I didn't feel like watching much
I have another video of our baby galah Donald being fed in the nesting box

The galahs here are too busy making a living to play

Got his attention Tim in the last one! There's nothing like a blue sky to help emphasise the colour. nice.

this is probably my only good galah shot, even though i have heaps most of them are terrible
That is so interesting Nathan, I had to look twice to see, that one bird is the reflection. Great.

This one was feeding with his mates and would occasionally look up at me. Somewhere near the Plenty River.
Cheers, Owen.
thx,M-L and Kathiemt
thats a perfectly crystal clear shot Owen, and just wondering,do any of you notice the different shades of pink between the Western Galahs and the more easterly ones? the Galahs in the East seem a lot richer and darker, comparing Owens picture to mine
I just assumed it had something to do with light settings or something Nathan. It didn't occur to me the colouring might be different.

I don't have many pics of these birds but I love these clowns of the bird world. Have seen them on the ground doing complete somersaults and love watching their antics. Lovely to see everyone's great pics.

Brisbane southside.
Here's a couple of shots. And notice how pink the crest is on the last shot compared to the other pics here?
Great shots HendoNT. I've got a pic of a baby galah with a pink crest. I wonder if it's because it's a juvenile perhaps?

Kathie, you might be right there!
Love the colours in that shot of yours Owen, it's just gorgeous!

Thanks Timmo.
@Nathan the lighting conditions were tough and resulted in me slightly underexposing the pink breast to save the whites on the head so no, I don't think there is noticeable colour difference over their range.
Cheers, Owen.
