That's a hard one Alan. It looks a lot like the juvenile Gouldian Finch to me. What do you think? Young ones are always difficult, unless you have seen them with their parents beforeindecision

I think it could be a Chestnut-Breasted Mannikin or Yellow -Rumped mannikin, its very young makes positive ID difficult

I’m with sparrow , (changed my mind on it), after looking at a different book. The Simpson&Day has a picture of the juvenile Chestnut-breasted Mannikin. Well done sparrow, think you are spot onyes

Alan, if you have a look at very young birds like this one, they don’t have the adult feathers yet. They look all fluffy in their down. (is that what it’s called?)

White in the corner of beak ,short tail, feather shape and colour ,the beak shape and face markings point to Mannikin ,but its just a educated guess and I could still be wrong (I bred finces and small parrots for many years but would still have to see it myself to be sure)

I believe a juvenile Chestnut-breasted Mannikin, it just looks young, for IDing I focused on the lines under the eyes, Pizzey & Knight show those lines on both CBM and Pictorella Mannikin but the PM has red legs.                                                                                   This is the best pic I have of adult & young CBM
