A big drink

This Bronzewing girl was having a big drink this afternoon. She is the mate of the Bronzewing boy that has been sleeping on my outside fridge all winter. After the boy called for weeks she turned up , just like every year. When I had to remove the fridge because it was rotting away, I felt bad about taking his home away. Both of them now sleep on the mat infront of the door on the other side of the house. They wake me up every morning.

Aww, what a cutie! :) It's lovely that they consider su casa mi casa... (or something)... Love the feather detail! :)

wonderful pictures ... they are beautiful birds.  (so an old fridge in the backyard is actually part of a bird friendly environment! I expect they find the mat more comfortable)

Yep, I suspect they generate a bit of heat in winter? And it's dry to sit close to the house. At times the Bronzewing shared the fridge with two King Parrots.

I have attracted many Bronzewings to our property but after 25yrs they have never shown any interest in feeding or resting up near the house.  They are a very shy bird and very quick to scoot if we come outside.  You are vey lucky!   PS: Great shots

i guess the fridge gets warm on top .... but i would have thought a fridge would attract penguins! :)

So that has to be one of my special friendships thenheart They are not worried about me walking up to them, they don't even fly off when I walk right past them with my dog. Then again my dogs don't pay any attention to birds. I also have to make sure they move out of the way when I drive past them.

I hope the local cats haven't discovered them on your mat, Araminta.

That's something I'm always worried aboutcrying , because I even keep my dogs inside  after dark, same can't be said about some cats in the areaangry

A beautiful bird, and beautiful photos! I'm thoroughly enjoying all of your gorgeous photos M-L, but often don't comment because I don't have anything more useful than "Wow" to add to the conversation. It's moments like these that a "Like" button can be really handy  yessmiley
