On a very windy day last week I went looking for a couple of Brown Falcons I have been keeping my eye on. It was interesting to see one of the birds using the strong wind to hover searching for prey, more like some of the Kestrels and Kites I have seen lately. Is this usual behaviour for the Falcons, or more opportunistic?
I have seen Brown Falcons hovering occasionally but in a hovering competition my money would be on the Australian Kestrel or Black-shouldered Kite.
That's what surprised me Woko, this bird looked as good as any Kestrel at the time.
Interesting observation.
"Heyyy this hovering thing ain't so hard after all!"
