White-Throated Nightjar

Having seen a few other people on various bird sites reporting this bird, I thought I'd go and check it out for myself. Wasn't quite sure what I was expecting, but anyway. He/she was kind enough to pop his head up for a minute. laugh

As someone I was talking to pointed out, these are supposed to sleep on the ground during the day, where as this one was sitting about 4 metres off the ground.

There was a general description of how to find his roosting tree on the birding site. But when I got out of my car with my camera, I was approached by a caretaker guy who asked me if I was there to see the nightjar. He then gave me more directions. :)

It was quite well shielded from the path though, and if you didn't know where to stop and look, you'd probably never spot it.

Nice to someone to tell you where he was those colours would make him very hard to see ,Like the Tawny Frogmouths I know they're there I can hear them and they fly across the Hwy at night, but I'll be b--------- if I can find them.

I love the first shot he looks like he could really use some sleep.

If you live in Bris-vegas you can find the spot in the Birdline report.

Windshear - this is a Brisbane weekend for me, any chance that you can pop out and ask the bird to me there on Saturday morning?

Heheh Peter, I don't have the ability to talk birds down out of their trees. :P
