A variety of small birds in the hinterland

Had a pleasant day out today driving to a favourite spot here on the Sunny Coast hinterland ... Bellbird creek. Although the sounds of the bellbirds were amazing.... as usal i didnt manage onen single sighting let alone get a shot off!!

However there were some very nice little visitors

Here is one of many New holland Honeyeaters that were enjoyhing the grevillea among other things

As we sat in the grass a pair of Easter Yellow Robins were busy catching insects and grubs around us , they didnt seem to be bothered by us at all

The light was very dark to get this Azure...one of a pair that were around the edge of a pond, I had forgotten how tiny these beautiful Kingfishers are

And of course no trip to the hinterland would be complete without a few dozen Red Backed Fairy Wrens darting around everywhere

Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I did!!!

WOW Adrienne, just wow!  I would so love to see any one of those last three little darling, not taking anything away from Mr NHH of course he is darling, but you know what I mean, birds I don't get to see.  I really love the comp in all of these, keep being drawn to the first one with the NHH and those almost evenly spaced crunchy leaves, beautiful.  Birds must have such amazingly precise and fast eyesight given how quickly they can perch, and not land on one of those prickles laugh.  I could just smoosh that little Red-backed Fairy-wren, love them all!

Really enjoyed seeing your lovely photos birdie, just beautiful. All wonderful little birds very skillfully captured. Azure kingfisher is spectacular, I know what you mean about them being in dark areas around a pond as the only time I had a chance to photograph one he was perched in a very gloomy spot, I didn't do anywhere near as well as your photo.

The eastern YRs seem to really like wooden posts, that must be the 3rd or 4th photo I have seen here of one perched happily on a wooden post. Really makes a beautiful picture. I think Reflex had a photo of one on a post not long ago.

Wow indeed! What a magnificent set of photographs. I would love to get a photograph of a Red Backed Fairy Wren but they are always just too far away or I'm not quick enough. I'm pleased to see a New Holland Honeyeater amongst them, I just assumed we didn't get them in Queensland. He picked a real prickly old branch to land on.

The Eastern Yellow Robin looks like a female and it has dark legs, that's interesting. I wonder if it's just the females that have dark legs? They really are a stunning bird and what better perch could you get than a weathered fence post to compliment the bright plumage.  Just stunning all of them!

Thank you all for such lovely comments.... I was so surprised at these results as I appear to have very blurry eyes and in the viewfinder and the LCD they all looked out of focus..... I kept on trying to take it again ...turns out it was pretty much my eyes all the time. except for the Kingfisher of course. You are right about the old mossy posts... they make such a great perch for these delicate little birds...  Annie, with reference to the perch of the NHH .... I do try to pull back the zoom when in such situations to include the delightful winter crunchy leaves etc..... I always believe you need to give space around a bird to make a good shot.... up close and personal is not always best I feel.. but that is my style I guess not everyone's. Thanks again for looking laugh

Our hinterland is full of secrets...we went out lookingn for raptors ...saw none but found these.....  a great day out

Cheers

I agree, although I don't have a set style myself laugh, when the surrounds and/or perch add, always best to give room around the bird, give the whole story.  I think up close has it's place too from time to time too though for portraits and detail etc, but you need to be in close with good light, which as we all know, is just not always possible with these little feathered flittery bullets.  Really do love these shots!

Lovely one of the robin birdie.

(Interesting to see that one has a very sharp thick black line across to the eye .... others i have seen its less distinct, more of a dark grey smudge)

Oh that is super sweet birdie.  What a beautifully sharp and vibrant shot too and such an inquisitive expression you've captured.  Glad you found another!

Thanks so much Willskrills, Night parrot , WD and Rick and Anniej laugh  It is great to get some results that you are happy with after a day out. I do love the area for all the small birds you can get there just bopping around the cafe grounds... quite uncommon to find a cafe with such treats ...cheeky

WD I don't really know about the black or grey smudge you are talking about , maybe I can look back at earlier EYR shots and see if they differ

Thanks again everyone

Cheers
