Big White Bird Survey: Annual Ibis and Cockatoo Counts

Its time again for the Annual White Bird survey. On the 11th of October, NSW Office of Environment and Heritage are asking people to record sightings of both Australian White Ibis and Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos.

Australian White Ibis survey:

 The Community Survey of the White Ibis Population commenced in 2003.

- This survey aims to get a better understanding of the distribution and abundance of Ibis across NSW & since 2010 across Australia.

- Increasingly, Ibis are moving into urban environments bringing them into conflict with human’s e.g. affecting aircraft safety, water quality and biodiversity.

- Please report the number of White Ibis you see on the Ibis survey page

- Reports within a week of the 11th are accepted.

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo survey:

- The Community Survey of the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo Population started in 2014.

- This survey aims to get a better understanding of the distribution and abundance of Cockies across NSW, particularly in urban areas.

- Cockatoos are moving into urban environments where they compete with other native species for limited large hollows in which to nest.

- Please report the number of Cockatoos you see on the Cockatoo survey page

- Reports within a week of the 11th are accepted.
