Thanks, George. We take no pride at all in our lawn, believing that a lawn is quite inappropriate for Australian conditions, especially in temperate & arid areas. All of our plants are drought tolerant so no watering is required. The hoses are for fighting any bushfires that come our way. And the open areas are for birds that like them such as superb fairy-wrens, magpies, mudlarks (pee wees in the eastern states), little ravens, the occasional sulphur crested cockatoos & little corellas as well as yellow-rumped thornbills, red-browed finches (when we get them) & even southern white faces some years ago.
Obviously, your environmental consideration is paying off judging by that beautiful selectio of visitors Woko.... I would be delighted to see that in Summer too. your garden looks great.
It's a good feeling being able to provide water in our gardens for the birds that visit and to be able to watch them drink and bathe. Lucky parrots that you have provided this facility, especially as Adelaide can be so dry.
