Aldinga Scrub selection

Paid my first visit today to Aldinga Scrub, South of Adelaide.

First impressions were that it was a bit slow but grew to really like the place.

Sandy tracks make for some silent travel and once I had a feel for it, (read, need to be patient smiley) I had a really nice time.

Saw my first Little Wattle Bird plus a couple of Elegant Parrots.

Part way through a Magpie landed close, and proceeded to get really close. I think he must have been hand fed by someone. At one stage I thought he would hop onto my hand he was that close and as fast as I backed up to try and get him in the frame he followed, hence the close up smiley

Looking forward to returning with more time to spend as it looks a great spot. No photos to set the world alight but gee it was nice.

Would be interested to hear if Little Wattle Birds are common in SA. P&K puts them at the edge of their range and I had no idea they were even here.

I've got shots of them at the laratinga wetlands and a few other places.

Nice selection of pics.

All I saw this morning were White Ibis, Sacred Kingfishers, Dollarbirds, Black-faced C S, Crows & a gazillion Mosquitos!

We very occasionally get Little Wattlebirds here on the s.e. Slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges but they're abundant in some Adelaide suburbs.

Rick, Aldinga Scrub is a precious piece of remnant coastal scrub, the last remaining piece near Adelaide. In spite of representations I made to the then Minister of Environment the government of the day approved a housing development almost slap bang against the Scrub's boundary. There were no restrictions placed on cat & dog ownership or what people are allowed to plant in their gardens so the Scrub's deterioration has continued. So treasure your visit because unless someone begins caring the last piece of Adelaide's coastal scrub will simply fade away under the pressure of human greed & indifference.
