I was out at North Lakes (north of Brisbane) poking around in the bush, when I spotted this medium-large bird hop-flying through the trees, being harassed by all and sundry small birds. Where it was was overlooking a kind of swampy area.
I originally thought it might be a juvenile Brown Goshawk, but now I'm not sure. It didn't stick around very long due to harassment by birds. Sorry about the quality, it was some way off.
Added a crop of the 'clearest' one.
Thanks in advance!
I think it's a Juvenile Collared Sparrowhawk because it has skinny legs but I often get confused between the Goshawk and Sparrowhawk.
I'm with Tim. Geez, what happened to the poor bugger? Caught in a downpour? LJ
Heh Lorne, I dunno, think he must've taken a dip in the swamp. No real rain today.
I would go with juvenile Brown goshawk too, though it could possibly be a Collared sparrowhawk, given that you described it as medium to large I would go with the Goshawk. Also, while it is hard to tell for sure due to the scragly feathers, seems to have a rounded profile on the splayed tail which would also indicate Goshawk.
