Today I heard an Australian Warbler calling from a mess of roadside fennel adjacent to a neighbour's dam at Woodchester on the s.e. slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges in SA. I wasn't aware this species uses fennel & on poking around in Morcombe's Field Guide to Australian Birds I find that it also uses lantana, tall crops & bamboo thickets.
This is the first time I've noticed an Australian Warbler in my vicinity in 30 years & it follows 60 mm of rain on 28th December & all neighbourhood dams near capacity.
