Barking Owl

This little beauty wasn't actually in my backyard but up at Lamington National Park. She lives at the O'Reillys Rainforest resort up there.

Woah, in-your-face owl. Beautiful shot, what camera/lens did you use to get that image so wonderfully close?? Well done!

Thanks for sharing.

Hi!
I have a canon 7D and the lens was a 300-400 canon zoom. Most intoxicating bird I have ever seen, couldn't take my eyes off her. (-:

Thanks for that. Looks like she wasn't the only one with eyes on who was visiting the rainforest!

another ripper shot. Where in the resort did you find this one? i was there a little while ago and didn't find a single owl.

Cheers, Owen.

Hi Owen, some of the birds had been injured so have actually been homed at Lamington and have a guy that looks after them. Apparently at the bird feeding area at night time you can find a Sooty Owl. There is also an Aust Owlet-Nightjar that lives in a knothole only about 15mins walk from the resort. I had a Sooty Owl in the tree outside my room, every half an hour or so he would call and he was so close but I just could not find him!!
I'll attach a photo of the Owlet-Nightjar, I didn't want to frighten him so I only took one shot. It's not a very good one but I didn't want to stress him so I just enjoyed seeing him without getting any photos.

Great shot Wildflower, really in your face. Can understand why you couldn't take your eyes off her.

Just thought I'd attach this pic to show you the owls eyelids. It's a bit hard to see as the eyes are open, but the eyelids are sky blue!! lol when the eyes were closed it looked like blue eyeshadow from the 70's, just beautiful. (Yes, I know I am a little bit obsessed about this bird (-:)

I was thinking why a Barking Owl in LNP, but the rehab thing makes sense. Lovely photos. I cannot see the 70s image it does not download as a jpeg :-(

well done overall.

I love nocturnal birds and have a strong affection for owls.

Will post a nightjar for Owen.

wow I can see why you were obsessed. I don't usually open attachments because they take too long, but I'm glad I saw this shot (having a bird of prey in the title usually gets me in)

I heard a barking owl doing the "screaming lady" call last night behind our place. What an amazing noise, certainly got the neighbourhood dogs upset.
Kinda hoping it was doing a victory call because it caught the possum that keeps destroying my vegie garden.
