Bowra Station, SW Queensland.

G'day all
.
it's been a while since I posted some shots. I have just returned from a week at Bowra Station, SW Queensland. The recent rains have rejuvenated the landscape and the birds are breeding like there's no tomorrow. I highly recommend this place as a birding destination.

Wow, George, what a variety of birds!
And ones that are uncommon and interesting for us city folk.

I'm with birdie on the woodswallow pic - it's great - he looks so soft and cuddly :)

George these are gorgeous. I love the way you've got the birds absolutely sharp and the foreground and background so soft. The little woodswallow is my pick too - easily as good as any published - but they are all fantastic. Doesn't the red-backed kingfisher look like a kookaburra that has been glammed up?

A real good set George well taken on all of them.

A Photo is only as good as the eyes that look at it.

Magnificent set GeorgeP, great sharp images. Almost all of these birds I don't see down south in Vic.

wow, fantastic pics...I am so jealous of that Variegated shot, and i would love to curl up in a warm bed with that woodswallow!

P.S what camera do you use?? Mine is just a digital powershot (Canon Powershot SX120 IS) but it takes awesomely sharp pics, but for this, I'd have to get up close and personal...i have 10x optical zoom...

don't forget to have a hoot!

G'day owlbaby,
.
thanks for the kind comments. I have a Canon 40D and I've bolted a Canon 100-400mm zoom to it. I agree with you re. the Woodswallow; they're so cute and cuddly. If you want to get close and personal with these birds, a trip to Bowra should be on your list of places to visit. It's a magic place.

Hi owlbaby,

It is definitely worth going to Bowra. I just recently spent a week there (in April). It was quite dry but despite that, I suppose the birds are used to that and it was a spectacular trip. I promise, you will have the time of your life. We were lucky to see the infamous Grey Falcon. No doubt that I will be going back there.

It is good to see that you are interested in birds. It is definitely worthwhile getting in contact with a local Birdlife club. I first started birding a few years ago in year 9.
